My Artistic Roots
My drawings are conjured from the worlds I grew up with. I’m inspired by the classic TV animation of the 1950s to 1970s, especially the work of studios like Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera. I love their bold colours, graphic shapes, and silly character designs.
Other foundational influences come straight from the bookshelf and the daily newspaper. Quentin Blake’s energetic, chaotic style made a huge impression from the many books I read as a kid. For years, I had a daily dose of Bill Watterson’s genius in Calvin and Hobbes strips, and I soaked in every detail of Albert Uderzo’s illustrations in the Asterix and Obelix books. That combination of movement, humour, and expressive line work is what I aim to mash up into my own work today.
